Welcome to the Cathedral Forum
The Cathedral Forum was designed by architect Carmen Izquierdo. The Cathedral Forum and the Cathedral Square in front of it, which was designed by landscape architect Charlotte Lund, was inaugurated on the First Sunday of Advent 2011. Both Carmen Izquierdo and Charlotte Lund won architecture awards for their work the same year.
The Cathedral Square links the cathedral and the Cathedral Forum, but is also a beautiful place with a value all its own.

From vision to reality
Plans for a visitor center near Lund Cathedral have been discussed for many years. In 2003 plans matured when the Cathedral council organized an architectural competition. 353 entries were submitted to the competition. The winning proposal was Carmen Izquierdo’s “Portal and Atrium”.
In May 2004, the Cathedral council invited tenders for the project, but since the construction market was overheated at the time there were no bidders. The project was put on hold until 2009. Carmen Izquirdo was then asked to elaborate on her original proposal.
Construction started in the summer of 2010 with an archeological excavation of the site. Below the Cathedral Forum are medieval cultural layers which are protected by a thick base plate. On August 26 a time capsule, containing a number of artifacts representing our time, was molded into the base plate. Perhaps it will some day be found by future archaeologists?
